Booking # 167: Fuzed Funk @ Fluid, Philladelphia

Last time i played Philly was 2005. Super excited to get back to the area. This time i got to see alot of Philly, ate a Cheese Steak at Pat's King of Steaks, overall really enjoyed my short visit. I took the Chinatown bus to Philly, an easy 2 hour drive. Only a few people on the bus, didn't hit any traffic, was a nice drive.

Met up with Ross D, awesome producer/DJ based in philly. Ate at a great new American cuisine resturant called The Latest Dish and headed upstairs to the venue. The venue itself was great, but the sound was off that night. I still had a blast, good vibes in the place. I look forward to returning to the club again. Much respect to Armen, Ross, and everyone with the crew. Big up to Dstar for coming out.

Booking # 166: Camouflage NYC w/ Kemo MC, Christian Bruna, Raw Q

Always good vibes at Camo! Was a honor and a pleasure to play alongside Kemo. I really enjoy his work with Lynx, very talened MC. This was a fun night. Raw Q started out with heavy rolling classics and funky new stuff. I've seen Beau so many times and i never know what to expect. He always maintains a sense of style, but i never here him play the same tunes over and over. Great selector and Dj. The same can definitely be said for Christian Bruna who turned alot of heads this night. I think we all expected Christian to play big rolling dancefloor tunes, instead for the first 30 minutes he played minimal, deep, almost experimental DnB tunes. Never know what to expect from Christian, which i think was his point in playing that set. Gotta respect that. A very diverse selector. For the last 30 minutes of he brought the energy way up. Fun set, thu i think it would have been appreciated better at 12:00.

I went on with Kemo at 2:00 till about 3:00. I tried to cater to him, but thats easy for me, as the music he's affiliated with is the style i play. I heard him say "yall, know the clock is ticking", so a few tunes latter i played the new Soul:r tune "Clockwork" with that line in it. Representing Soul:r himself, Kemo gave me the nod of approval. For my set, I mixed it up between the harder liquid vibes and the chrunchy halftime DnB. Playing lots of Tricky Pat & Brandon Miles, they are making really excellent DnB tunes right now. New ST Files is excellent, mixmaster doc's halftime tunes are huge, both big on the floor.

"Shichman, slick man, sick dj... ;) good meeting you too. One. K"

Yep, it was a great night! :)

Booking # 164: Driven AM Record Release Party @ Camouflage, NYC

Wow…Once again, just like every time I play camo, the crowd is totally receptive to ANYTHING I play… Well, let me clarify, I play quality music, and they love it haha… but you know what I mean, I don’t have to play one subgenre in particular (hard, dark, liquid, etc)…

I started with a bunch of melodic fun dancefloor tunes (mainly by sinistarr, mmdoc, spectrasoul, random movement, spy, high contrast, etc…), then feeling the crowd, I went deeeeper and got into a bunch of SMALL halftime stuff (tricky pat, icicle, sinistarr/mmdoc, etc), to my surprise, the crowd went nuts! I played Tricky Pat’s Temper D remix (of something, sorry forget the name), which is a really fun small tune that goes dubstep in the middle, its really small and I honestly diden’t think I would work live, but it went over huge, and before that I played Instru:mental – No Future, and they went nuts!

I slowly moved into some 4/4 stuff and dubstep, then back into DnB for the last hour of my set. I got to play for about 2 hours in total, and the crowd was with me for the majority of it. At about 3:30 when I heard last call I moved into some pop just for the hell of it, place went crazy when I played MGMG’s Kid’s and Skream’s La Roux RMX… Seeing that there were a few non DnB heads in the crowd I reached for my Calculon bootlegs (Such Great Heights and that MIA tune) that they went over HUUUUUUGE. I also played a bunch of classic (HC - Music is everything, Solid State (Marcus rmx) which the crowd knew and enjoyed. They also loved Dave Owen - Sucker Love, really went nuts over that one as well as my collab with Dave Owen got a huge reception.

Just such a pleasure to play to a crowd that stays with you the whole time. Anyone who has seem me live or heard any of my mixes, knows I play at least 30 tunes an hour most of the time, so my sets tend to move and progress a lot, but I never thought I could play Instru:mental and other really small tunes and still have them go over huge… I feel really good about DnB right now and I plan on incorporating more small minimal halftime stuff in between the bigger dancefloor tunes.

Big up Christian Bruna and the whole Tuesday night Camouflage Crew! Such a great party!
